Summary

Pieces of Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery found on a building site in 1970 probably indicate that this area was part of Hellesdon medieval village. Banks and ditches of the possible deserted medieval village are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs.

April 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Banks and ditches relating to the possible deserted medieval village described above are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S7).
The features are centred on TG 2011 1055 and consist of at least three parallel northwest-southeast ditches within the area of recovered finds (see above), as well as two perpendicular banks which appear to cross at TG 2015 1066, perhaps defining an area of activity within them, which consisted of a series of irregular earthwork pits, and has been mapped as an extent of area, as it was unclear whether these related to archaeological activity.
E. Bales (NMP), April 2010.
