Map

No mapped location recorded.

Unstratified and poorly located finds from Horsey beach.

Around 1953. Beach.
Picked up by Rev. Hart at unknown location on Horsey beach following floods:
1 Palaeolithic Acheulian flint handaxe. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1963.444).
Information from (S1).
Listed in (S2), on (S3) and in (S4). Also noted in (S5) and (S6), although no additional information is given. Described in (S7) as a slightly rolled ovate.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 4 June 2014.

It is noted by (S1) that at an unspecified date the vicar of Horsey held an "Acheulian implement" that had been found "nearby, on beach". This had apparently been seen by 'Rumbelow' and there is also a somewhat cryptic reference that reads "Wake: Note 1938". Although previously recorded seperately as NHER 8400 it is highly likely that this is actually a reference to the handaxe now held by the NCM - it is recorded as such in (S6).
P. Watkins (HES), 4 June 2014.
