Full Description
Limekiln.
Chalk was brought here by barge to be burnt.
Little remains of the kiln in a circular structure of brick and flint (flint alone old) with conical thatched roof used as the Bridge Hotel retaurant.
[1] was misled into thinking this was part of the priory (see NHER 8601) which is probably the origin of the statement in a newspaper that 'parts of the inn are over 500 years old', for there is nothing old visible in the building.
E. Rose (NAU) 15 November 1978.
