Summary

Banks and ditches were noted in 1964 as possible house platforms. However, these were later reassessed as drainage features. The whole site is now covered in heaps of rubble. Metal detecting in 1992 recovered a decorated Saxon lead weight.

Map

1964. Ditches and banks noted (on NCM map).

30 September 1981. Visit.
Doubtful about the archaeological importance of these. They consist of a north to south drainage channel flanked by low flat mounds. They may just about be house platforms, but they could be the result of drainage and are not convincing.
E. Rose (NAU), 30 September 1981.

May 1992. Metal detecting. Probable Late Saxon discoidal lead weight with cast chevrons decoration on one face and central pierced hole.
To be photographed NLA. Identified by S.Margeson (NCM).
D.A.Gurney (NLA) 15 June 1992.

Source [1] states that a note by the rector around 1770 refers to a farm of Francis Longe of Spixworth, pulled down by Mr Colman, opposite Mr Grigson's (now the Hall) and near the blacksmith's (now Elm Farm) whereas the Tithe map shows a field [1] as Colmans Yards.
E. Rose (NLA), 8 December 1995.

1997. Brief visit, looked at from road. North of road, very limited and unconvincing features. South of road was common on (S1) and this part natural, part drainage.
B.Cushion (NLA), January 1997.

Whole site under heaps of tipped earth and rubble.
H. Paterson (A&E), 18 March 1998.

Whole field under rough grass, with many heaps of tipped earth and hard core, no identifiable earthworks.
H.Paterson (A&E), 1 April 1998.
