Summary

Home Farm Cottage is mostly 19th century but two small blocked windows in the end wall suggest it may have been built as early as 1700. The adjoining brick barn has a patch of flint walling on road. Metal letters on the gable wall spell out part of a date '..7...7'. The pantile roof is built on simple rafters, supported on two tapering tree trunks which may be old ships' masts. The barn has now been converted into a house.

Map

June 1976. Visit.
Barn adjoining Home Farm Cottage, Brancaster Staithe. Brick (Flemish bond) with a patch of flint walling on road. Gable wall has 'herringbone' brick, and metal letters with part of a date '..7...7'. Pantile roof on simple rafters, supported on two tapering tree trunks with cuts in them - old ships' masts? Slit windows in gable wall have been blocked from inside. One corner corbelled. Adjoining cottage mostly 19th century but two small blocked windows in end wall may be older. Application to convert into holiday flats 1976.
E. Rose (NAU), 19 June 1976.

Converted to house; south wall (against road) has been rendered over to form one facade with adjoining cottage. Masts have presumably gone. The east brick quoins of the cottage, together with the blocked windows mentioned, may suggest a 17th century origin for the cottage though not the barn.
E. Rose (NAU), 30 June 1982.
