Summary

This is the site of post medieval brick kilns. In 1982 one kiln was visible, and fragments of clay drainage pipe and brick were visible in the surrounding area. It is known that the kiln was in use up until 1913, and that it produced some of the 19th century sections of Merton Hall.

Kilns marked by (S1). Found again 1973 when trees cut down; the trees were around 100 years old.

1974.
Pottery flue or tuiliere found beside kiln - tapering, round, groove at one end to fit next length.

30 April 1982.
A wooded mound covers one kiln, one arch of which is just visible where exposed by rabbits; in crude brickwork. Fragments of clay drainage pipe and brick lie about. In use up to 1913 and made 19th century sections of Merton Hall according to Lord Walsingham.
