Location

Civil Parish ATTLEBOROUGH, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

West of Leys Lane.
Linear cropmark paralleling field boundary; in line with Bunns Bank further east, but considered by R.R. Clarke not to be the ditch of that, but probably a modern feature.

April 1979. Visit.
No trace in field where crop was just sprouting.
E. Rose (NAU), 11 April 1979.

November 2022-March 2023. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of narrow strip along route of proposed new access road.
This survey identified a similarly-aligned linear anomaly at the point where the proposed corridor intersected with the recorded location of this cropmark. However, this anomaly also clearly coincides with a former field boundary depicted on the Attleborough tithe map (S1).
See report (S2) and NHER 55758 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 23 October 2024.

March-July 2023. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of route of proposed new access road.
A single trench excavated in the vicinity of this cropmark revealed no potentially corresponding remains.
See report (S3) and NHER 55758 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 23 October 2024.
