Summary

A large bank has been recorded in Folly Plantation close to Harlingwood Lane. Harling Wood was a very large wood owned by the Manor of East Harling and is recorded in the 16th century although it was probably older. The bank may have been a boundary for this wood. The bank and plantation have now both gone.

'In Harlingwood Lane, near where Cuffer Lane falls into it, in a plantation called 'The Folly', is a part of a very large bank, the rest of which has been carried away and spread over adjacent lands.

1960.
A. Whittingham (church architect) saw a bank with a ditch on either side, total width 9m (30 feet), between above grid references (approximately). Folly Plantation has been completely cleared and ploughed over; no trace at all of bank.

The bank described above is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S2) in 1944, stretching between TM 0822 9174 and TM 0864 9182 and measuring approximately 9m in width. It has clearly been ploughed level by 1970 (S3).
