Summary

The cropmarks of a probable road and/or field boundary of either Roman or medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Caistor Lane, Caistor St Edmund. The road or boundary clearly pre-dates the field boundaries depicted on the 1840 Caistor St Edmund Tithe map. The date of this road or track is uncertain. The route is to the immediate east of the Caistor Roman temple complex (NHER 9787) and numerous Roman date objects have been discovered within this general area. See NHER 52313-4 for a possible continuation of this road or track approximately 400m to the east.

Old road? marked on (S1), running southwest to northeast. C. J. S. Green (NCM) left a note (with only a vague grid reference) to dark cropmarks on either side of the east to west hedgebank that this road joins, suggesting perhaps a continuation eastwards on a different alignment.
