Full Description
1964.
Report of two medieval cottages immediately west of Methodist Chapel. Well in garden suggested as original well of Ashwellthorpe? Anonymous informant, see (S1). The informant was later revealed, who said the well was 'bricked in below and the top rebricked' and that 'the chantry used the barn', (S1)
This seems to be an obvious confusion with the Chantry House at St Mary's Chapel (site NHER 9993) where the previous owner claimed the well in his garden gave its name to Ashwell hamlet.
Perhaps informant misunderstood 'chapel' to mean Methodist chapel.
E. Rose (NAU), 15 March 1985.
