Summary

A linear earthwork on Ashill Common, of Iron Age, Roman or Early Saxon date. The earthwork is crossed by the line of a Roman road and appears to be associated with a nearby Roman enclosure.

Scheduled monument consent granted regarding the taking out of top silts to a depth of 750mm to encourage water flow

September 2005. Watching brief on the removal of top silt to a depth of 750mm. Operation undertaken to alleviate flooding further up the ditch system.
A possible clay lining to the ditch was observed.
Pond to west excavated to encourage wildlife, under a Stewardship Scheme.
