Full Description
Ring ditch on RAF air photographs.
A. Lawson (NAU).
No sign in pasture.
A. Lawson (NAU) 17 March 1976.
September 2025. Northwest Norfolk Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
It should be noted that the aerial photograph on which the possibly Bronze Age ring ditch described above was seen was not consulted by the project as it could not be identified.
Up to four small ring ditches are visible in this field on aerial photographs taken in 1945 (S1) and 1946 (S2). They are relatively small, and their appearance is more reminiscent of medieval to post medieval stack stands, rather than Bronze Age round barrows or prehistoric roundhouses, although neither of the latter interpretations can be entirely ruled out. A further possibility is that they are instead fungus rings, and their appearance on some aerial photographs (such as S3) is more supportive of this interpretation than their appearance on others (such as S2).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 19 September 2025.
