NHER 12138 (Monument record) - Multi-period finds

Enclosure noted on St. Joseph's list of air photographs. Apparently same as October 1945 RAF air photograph which shows roughly circular enclosure with existing curving drain as north arc, soilmark to east and south shows wetter depression.

November 1997. Fieldwalking.
Natural gravel knoll, up to 2m above surrounding area.
One hour of field walking produced a scatter of Roman and medieval pottery but with Ipswich Ware and a distinct concentration of Roman pottery with probable Roman tile, in the north-west of area (context 1). medieval and post medieval brick/tile also in this concentration.

Concentration context 1 on 10,000:
Roman two tiles?, one bowl/dish rim, one jar rim, one base, thirteen body sherds: all greyware.
Medieval one possible early medieval body sherd unglazed, selection of medieval brick/tile.
Post medieval roof tile and brick fragments not collected.
General scatter to east and south:
Roman one rim, six body sherds, one base?: all greyware.
Middle Saxon one rim of pimply Ipswich Ware.
Medieval one base and one body sherd unglazed, one re-fired scrap medieval glazed?.
Post medieval one odd glazed red earthenware.
