Full Description
8 and 9 March 1980. On field surface.
Struck flints all over field.
In southeast corner of field, cutting edge of stone axe.
Gilt Roman disc brooch (with enamel inlay).
Axe identified as Group I, Cornwall (petrology N244), see (S1).
Scatter of Roman and medieval sherds.

Stubble (cereal). Visibility on ground very poor. Detection 15% efficiency.
Late medieval/early post-medieval flat-topped thickened rim of cast copper alloy vessel with exterior sooting. Apparently a bowl of considerable diameter (>70mm).

Two prehistoric flint flakes, two Roman, four medieval and five post-medieval coins, one medieval and three post-medieval jettons, undatable, Roman, Early Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval RB, ES, med, med/post-med & post-med metal objects. N. B. Some of the finds are probably from HER 4193 and 20587, but were not differentiated. As a much larger number of objects were recorded on this occasion from this site (or former field) than from the other two, the unnumbered and unlettered finds are listed under HER 15875.
