NHER 20590 (Monument record) - Site of Roman settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

This is the site of a Roman settlement, which continues as NHER 15875 and NHER 20647. A concentration of Roman finds, including pottery, a coin, a spindle whorl made from a Roman pot and Roman flue tiles were found at this site during a field walking survey. Field walking also recovered prehistoric flints, a bowl and a bead of unknown date, and fragments of pottery dating from the Middle Saxon to the post medieval periods.

Early 1980 and 1985. Field walking in good conditions.
Large quantity of Roman pottery including Samian; illegible coin probably 4th century and perhaps another; brick includes possible Roman flue tile; spindle whorl made from Roman pot.
Medieval sherds including Grimston and late medieval/early post medieval; Ipswich and Thetford wares, post medieval wares, undated sherds.
Jet bead, iron bowl fragment, undated.
Flints.
