Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking finds recovered during the period 1985-1997 indicate this may be the site of a Roman settlement. The Roman finds recovered include pottery sherds, brick fragments, coins and several other metal objects, including a copper alloy spur. A range of other objects have also been recovered including Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and Neolithic worked flints, possible Iron Age pottery, an Early Saxon glass bead and medieval and post medieval pottery sherds and metal objects.

1985. Fieldwalking finds.
Eight Roman coins. Coin of Elizabeth I.

1988.
Possible Iron Age sherd, Roman coins, sherds, brooches; medieval to post medieval metalwork. Undated antler tip, three lead weights, bronze casting jet.

1995. Systematic fieldwalking.
Area comprising twelve 20ft x 40ft blocks; labelled A1-A6 and B1-B6 by finder, see map in file.
1 Mesolithic/Early Neolithic broken flint microblade and 1 small patinated flake.
5 Neolithic flint flakes and 1 scraper.
3 ?Iron Age pottery sherds.
1 Iron Age/Early Saxon pottery sherd (rim with linear decoration).
9 Roman coins, 142 pottery sherds (including 2 amphora and 2 mortarium), 5 brick fragments and copper alloy spur (see polaroid).
1 ?Roman pottery sherd.
2 Roman to medieval lava quern fragments.
1 Early Saxon glass bead.
10 medieval pottery sherd
1 post-medieval pottery sherd.
1 undatable rumbler bell, lead weight, lead pot mend and 6 iron slag lumps

All of these finds (with the exception of the Early Saxon bead) were subsequently given to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1999.323.8.3).
