Full Description
20 May 1987.
Detailed (S1) in file of location. Depth of empty plot to east of road along south boundary of church.
Line of sewer pipe already installed. Poor conditions for recovery to east of plot, trench covered with gravel for pub car park so not examinable. Various soil colours and textures visible in backfill.
Several medieval peg roof tiles (one collected as sample).
Base probably Thetford type, very hard fine.
Five Grimston Thetford/unglazed Grimston.
Eighteen medieval unglazed, mostly early medieval type.
One developed Stamford.
Five glazed three Grimston, one West Norfolk bichrome and one post medieval greenglazed (other post medieval not collected).
Twnety four sherds representing several vessels of crucibles in probable Thetford type fabric, all with signs of use including slaggy deposits.
23 June 1987. Additional finds after more weathering.
Roman shelly jar rim.
Fragment reduced tile Roman?
Two probable Thetford type body sherds.
Four Grimston Thetford or unglazed Grimston sherds.
Twenty medieval unglazed mostly early medieval-ish.
Two glazed Grimston including fragment of aquamanile or similar.
Rim of 16th? century glazed.
Eleven Thetford type fabrics with slaggy deposit.
Twelve crucible sherds.
