Full Description
Winter 1986 to 1987. Fieldwalking in area around proposed line of Kirby Cane bypass. Context 1 centred on grid reference.

J.A. Davies (NCM), 11 September 1988.
August 1995. Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey and Watching Brief.
Context 2. Area extended to southwest to cover evaluation in advance of gravel pit, partly overlapping Context 1.
Field survey recovered a range of objects including:
Prehistoric worked and burnt flints.
2 Roman tile fragments (very abraded).
1 medieval iron spur fragment.
18 post-medieval ceramic building material fragments.
Various post-medieval/undatable metal objects.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping identified a ditch and a number of probably associated ploughmarks. These features were of probable late post-medieval/early modern date. A number of additional finds were also recovered including a prehistoric worked flint and several potentially Roman tile fragments.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
E. Rose (NLA), 10 November 1995. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 23 March 2015.
