Summary

The site of Heigham Gate, part of the city's medieval walled defences, at the junction of Westwick Street, Barn Road and Heigham Street. Also known as Hell Gate and Blake or Black Gate, it was a postern, only capable of admitting small carts. It was repaired in 1742, but had been demolished by the mid 19th century.

Junction of Westwick Street, Barn Road and Heigham Street.
This gate was a postern only capable of admitting small carts. It was anciently called Hell Gate, Blake or Black Gate. 'Portae Inferni'.

Fitch Gates (1861). 5. Henri III (1221) mention of common way leading from the gate called Blake Gate to the river.

1742. Repaired.

Demolished before (S1) did his illustrations.
