Summary

A parish church which dates back to the Late Saxon period, and which contains a 12th century piscina and stonework. A chapel to the Howard family was founded in the early 14th century, and the church was substantially rebuilt by a member of the Howard family in the early 15th century. The church was restored by Gilbert Scott in the 1870s.

Massive conglomerate southwest nave quoins suggest Late Saxon or Saxo-Norman origin.
Later Norman work includes 12th century piscina and reused fragments; (carved head from NHER 11978 might possibly from here). Possible Norman core to tower.
West end of chancel, formerly flanked by chapels, early 14th century.
Nave and aisles rebuilt, tower reclad, chancel altered, and probably brick porch added between 1388 and 1428, largely under supervision of William Rose whose tomb remains.
Restoration in 1870s by Scott.
Some good memorials including coffin slabs.
Dated font.
