Full Description
Dunston Field.
This record compiles information on objects recovered from the ploughsoil within "Dunston Field", which forms part of the Roman extramural settlement (NHER 52194) surrounding Caistor Roman Town (NHER 9786). The assemblage includes important Middle Saxon coin finds.
Cropmarks in this area, some of which were previously discussed in this records, are recorded separately. The extra-mural settlement cropmarks are now recorded under NHER 52194, the possible grubenhaus/sunken-floored buildings are NHER 52198. The Roman road to the west of the town is recorded as NHER 52027. Other cropmarks in area include NHER 52190-521911, 52195-521966.
Aerial photographs taken in 1946, 1975-1977, and 1993-1996 were previously noted in relation to this field.
