Summary

A large earthen mound survives in Quidenham Park along with a 17th-18th century brick-built icehouse. The mound is certainly not a barrow and may be some sort of garden feature and is referred to as the 'Mount' on 19th century mapping.

In Quidenham Park about 91m (100yds) from Banham Road. Circular? Very large, roughly 6.1m (20ft) high.
Noted by [1] as possible tumulus 24 March 1928 (photograph).
Suggested by [2] as a mound in landscape gardening.
Marked as mount on (S1).
Has 17th-18th century ice-house at side.

About 6m high, 65m diameter, ditch 5m across, covered in pines, incorporates ice-house.
Not a barrow.

1983 Listing (Grade II) describes ice-house as late 18th century brick, swept entrance walls with coping lead to short passage opening into interior of inverted flat-bottomed cone in header bond brickwork.
Octagonal groin vault above.

Many conifers on mound appear diseased and dying. Some deep wheel ruts noted. Agent confirmed by telephone (15 September 1997) that dead trees had been felled.

The large earthwork mound described above is clearly visible on the available aerial photographs, and is clearly extant as recently as 2007 (S2-S5). It has not been mapped as its extent is clearly depicted on the Ordnance Survey map (S6).
