Summary

The site of a Roman villa, probably consisting of two buildings. Since the 1950s, ploughing, and more recently metal detecting, have uncovered Roman building material, pottery, coins, quernstones and a copper alloy mount decorated with a lion's head.

1954.
South end of field called Chapple Hill and north end of Dovehouse Meadow. Two Roman buildings. Roman villa revealed by ploughing. Roof, floor, flue tiles, brick tesserae.
Samian, other pottery (coin as above). Three puddingstone querns. Two blocks of buildings; sherds probably all 2nd century.

Site of Roman building ploughed into.
Brick and chalk tessera, flue tiles, mortar, part of buff wall-sided mortaria and grey ware. Later 2nd to 3rd century.
One oyster shell.
Seen by E. B. Green (NCM).

Early 1991. Metal detecting on site with 'Roman building'.
Nineteen Roman coins. Roman bronze mount with lions head in high relief; incised main around. (S2).
