Summary

Deposits of 16th and 17th century pottery wasters were found during the excavation of trenches for a septic tank and were later excavated. Earlier the same year medieval twisted handles had been found on the surface. The pottery represents debris from pottery making but the kiln site has not been identified.

June 1974. Field Observation.
Deposits of pottery were encountered by workmen whilst digging trenches for a septic tank.
The Norfolk Archaeological Unit was informed and observed the trenches prior to back-filling.
The trenches had been cut through deposits containing a high density of complete earthenware vessels including many kiln wasters.

September 1974. Excavation.
Two trenches were excavated by P. Wade-Martins (Norfolk Archaeological Unit) and members of the Norfolk Archaeological Rescue Group.
Deposits of 16th- and 17th-pottery wasters
Group 1 finds included jars, chafing dishes, and warming pots.
Group 2 finds included chafing dishes, jugs and bowls.
Earlier the same year medieval twisted handles had been found on the surface.
