Summary

Between 1948 and 1950 a Roman samian ware pot was recovered, depicting a panther and two deer. The pot is probably from Lezoux in France, and was made around 150 AD.

1948 to 1950. Disused gravel pit north-west of Broadwash Farm.
Coarse Roman pottery and one large fragment of Samian Ware F.37 (S1).
Decorated with Panther, galloping left, see (S1) plate LXIV.1541, Lezoux Antonine-Marius style. Pantheress, walking left, See (S1) Plate LXIV.1557 Rheinzabern-Antonine. Two deer on right, see (S1) Plate LXXIII.1805, Lezoux-Trajan-Antonine- Butrio-Petomus style, and bottom of (S1) plate LXXIV.1822M - Lezoux- Trajan-Antonine-Butrix style. Probably Lezoux ware of around 150 A.D.
