FINDS MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

British Museum:
The British Museum holds a number of flints with an unspecific Norfolk provenance:
1 handaxe. Ex Payne (1883,1213.11). Previously identified by E. Rose (NAU) and noted on (S1). Previously recorded as NHER 11505.
2 handaxe. Donor unknown (unregistered).
Information from museum records.

The British Museum's records also suggest that it holds a collection of 10 flints that were recovered at various Norfolk sites by J. E. Sainty (previously listed as 1929,1214.1-10 but this may be erroneous). These are now recorded as "eoliths" and are therefore clearly no longer seen as genuine artefacts.

Pitt Rivers Museum:
The Pitt Rivers Museum holds a number of unprovenanced Palaeolithic flint handaxes from Norfolk:
8 handaxes (1884.122) and 1 cast of handaxe (1884.125.146). Founding collection.
4 ovate and discoidal "Acheulian" implements (1919.33). Ex O. S. Raphael. A fifth object of similar type was exchanged with the National Museum of South Rhodesia in March 1948.

1 Palaeolithic flint handaxe. Small white ovate.
