Full Description
Northern of two parallel linear features on Ordnance Survey vertical air photograph, see (S1).
Seems to be a road as indicated on (S2).
E. Rose (NAU)
2000. Field Observation and Desk-based Assessment.
Site visited and considered as part of archaeological assessment of Holkham Estate.
Arable, ploughed, no evidence on ground.
See report (S5) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 28 April 2015.
June 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The feature is visible for a length of 425m, running from TF 8977 4365 to TF 9019 4360, (S3). The feature is visible as a parchmark, with a maximum width of 21m, although the material has presumably been spread by plough action. This is almost certainly a cropmark of a medieval track or boundary and, although it does not match exactly with features depicted on Clerk’s map of 1590 (S4), it matches the alignment of the boundaries and roads depicted at that time.
M. Brennand (NMP), 19 June 2002.
