Summary

Whilst knocking a hole for a new door at Rectory Cottage a fragment of Roman amphora pottery was found. Reports suggest parts of Roman millstones were also used in the construction of the building. This might be reused material from Branodunum fort (NHER 1001).

Sherd (handle and neck fragment) of amphora - Spanish globular? Rest of wall (in which sherd was mortared) was flint and rubble with 'fragments of mill stones' - reused material from Branodunum?
