Summary

A Neolithic polished flint axehead found in a sewer trench in 1975. The axehead is thought to have been found with a wooden handle, although this was not recovered.

Map

December 1975. About 1.8m (6 feet) deep in peaty clay. Found in sewer trench.
Polished flint axe, pointed butt with flake scars. Said to have been found with wooden handle, not recovered.
Circular section 3.8cm to 5cm (1 1/2 - 2 feet) diameter, with axe mounted in split end. Bound with 'cloth or leather or reeds'.
