Summary

In 1975 a prehistoric quarzite pebble with an unfinished perforation was recovered from fenland. These objects are commonly referred to as pebble maces and are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.

1975. Stray Find.
A prehistoric quartzite pebble with unfinished perforation found in fen on ploughed surface of sandy island. It showed signs of battering. Petrology No. N216. See illustration (S1).

This may be an unfinished pebble mace, although it is perhaps a little small. These objects are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
