NHER 11668 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Cropmark of probable Bronze Age ring ditch

A cropmark of a ring ditch, probably relating to a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S5). Other cropmarks of ditches and enclosures previously recorded as part of this site are now recorded within the extended area of NHER 11841. This ring ditch is located at TG 4058 0360. It is sub-circular in plan with a ditch measuring up to 6m wide and an overall external diameter of 34m. It is likely that it is of Bronze Age date and that it relates to a round barrow. The north-east side of this ring ditch is overlain by a trackway associated with a field system of probable Roman date (NHER 11841). This suggests that any barrow mound which may originally have been present was levelled or at least considerably reduced by that time. A smaller ring ditch cropmark, probably also of Bronze Age date, is located 160m to the north (NHER 49385).
