March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a probable Bronze Age double concentric ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs (S2-S8 and S10-S11). The ring ditch most likely relates to the site of a Bronze Age round barrow. A possible low earthwork mound is visible within the interior of the ring ditch on the relatively recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S9). The feature visible on the visualised lidar data may relate to the internal mound of the barrow. However, it is also possible that the mound could be natural in origin. The earthwork mound has been mapped by extent due to the uncertainty of its origin. The site forms part of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 68100) along with the sites of further probable Bronze Age round barrows recorded in the vicinity. The oval ring ditch discussed above (see above) was not identified by the project on the consulted sources.
