Summary

The earthworks (since levelled) of a ring ditch, most likely relating to a probable Bronze Age round or pond barrow, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. The earthworks are subsequently levelled with the ring ditch visible as a cropmark on later (1974-2022) aerial photographs. The site forms part of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 68100) along with the sites of further probable Bronze Age round barrows recorded in the vicinity.

The earthworks (since levelled) of a ring ditch (see above), most likely relating to a probable Bronze Age round or pond barrow, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1). The earthworks are subsequently levelled with the ring ditch visible as a cropmark on later (1974-2022) aerial photographs (S2-S9 and S11-S12). The presence of a central mound is uncertain. No trace of an earthwork mound was visible on the aerial photograph taken in 1946. It is possible that mound may have survived as a very low earthwork or had been previously levelled. However, a section of earthwork bank (centred at approximately TF 8801 1678) is visible around the exterior of the ring ditch on S1. A hollow (mapped by extent) is also visible within the interior of the ring ditch on the relatively recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S10). It is possible that the features may relate to the site of a Bronze Age pond barrow rather than a round barrow. The site forms part of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 68100) along with the sites of further probable Bronze Age round barrows recorded in the vicinity.
