Summary

Two probable Bronze Age round barrows (NHER 70047 and 70048) survive as earthworks at Shepherd’s Hill. Mounds and surrounding ring ditches have been identified on the ground, and on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data. With NHER 70040 270m to the northeast, and NHER 1946 270m to the southwest, the barrows appear to be part of a larger linear arrangement of eight round barrows, aligned northeast to southwest. Investigations of the site recovered a single prehistoric flint scraper and retouched flake near to the barrows. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2018) it is likely that the earthworks still survive.
