Map

'Remains of a small Norman motte slightly mutilated on the southeast side by the modern road. Of quite defensive construction this motte is similar to others encountered during investigation. A rectangular depression on top of the island may indicate the site of a mill which gives the site the name of Mill Mount'.
Accompanying diagram shows the mound as surrounded by a ditch, partially wet, which is '3.6' (metres) deep on inner face and '1.9' on other.
Information from Ordnance Survey card by 'JB', 18 November 1971.
E. Rose (NAU), 20 July 1978.

Covered in trees.
Ordnance Survey description confirmed, and probably identification.
Far too large to be just a mill mound.

(S1) suggests that this was built by the Bigods during the 12th century.
D. Gurney (NLA), 14 May 2003.

October 2004. Visit.
Ditch wet in most areas, many trees on mound and outer banks. A few large ash. Much scrub and weed with ground and bush ivy. No evident animal disturbance.
H. Paterson (A&E), 7 January 2005.

(S1) expanded as (S2) stating that this may be an Anarchy castle, but it is set in the middle of fields and there was little fighting in Norfolk in the Anarchy. It is more probably of 1171 when Henry III-to-be invaded.
E. Rose (NLA), 1 April 2006.
