Summary

A medieval rectangular moat can be seen on this site. A large pillar of mortared flint nearby may be the corner of a building, perhaps a gatehouse for the moated site, and is related to earthworks that can be seen around it. The present hall was built in 1532 by Mr Berry and considerably altered in the 17th century (NHER 68962).

The flint masonry pillar, 2m high and 1.6m square appears to be northeast corner of structure. 'L'-shaped flint masonry wall and ground level to west, all on uneven platform overlooking north northeast to south southwest aligned 7m plus wide linear channel, with pond fed by spring at southern end.
See report (S2) for plan and further details. This site was included in (S3) and the survey is also noted in (S4).

The present hall dates to 1532 and was listed Grade II* in 1951. It is now recorded separately as NHER 68962. A garden wall of probable 17th-century date to the north of the hall and 18th-century boundary walls to the west and south of the hall were listed Grade II in 1979. These are now recorded as NHERs 68963 and 69964 respectively.
