Summary

Fieldwalking here in 1977 recovered four medieval pottery sherds, three flint flakes and two flint cores of prehistoric date and one unidentified flint-gritted pottery sherd, while metal-detecting between 2015 and 2016 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins.

Map

North end of field south of Bessingham church, and southern end of field west of church, joined by narrow strip between churchyard and Hill Plantation. Finds from west field - Context 1, south field - Context 2.
Former field produced one medieval glazed sherd and two flint cores - not good conditions for finding.
Latter field produced three medieval sherds, three flint flakes and one unidentified flint-gritted sherd.
Despite well-washed surface no signs of occupation.
Earthworks from site NHER 6593 not visible here.
