Location

Civil Parish OXBOROUGH, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

'On Warren Hill is a deep fosse and vallum'. See (S1). Ponds shown on (S2) seem most probable feature corresponding, but though they are still marked on the current Ordnance Survey map, writer could not find them. Shape of wood has entirely altered. Forestry Commission workers there did not know of them. No other features in area fit description.

NAU air photographs confirm ponds filled in and planted over. A. Lawson (NAU) says that in another edition of (S1) Bryant says the fosse 'joins several tumuli', but if so this seems to be a confusion with Camden's 'mounds south of the town' (S3). It is not another edition of Bryant, it is (S4), from which Bryant quoted.

This could also be the site of Oxborough Warren.
See (S5).
