July 2006. Field Observation.
Detailed inspection of building, and comparison with painting of house of around 1680 and photograph of 1900, indicates that above comments are not entirely correct. There may be evidence of an older flint core but the basic appearance of the present house was the same around 1680; however an attic storey of dormers was replaced by a full top storey in the style of the original building probably around 1720. Various additions and alterations made at the same time. High quality internal panelling of either 1680 or 1720. In the 19th century a shop front was inserted but in the 20th the original appearance was carefully restored.
See report (S3) for further details.
E. Rose (NLA), 9 August 2006.
