Full Description
Pre 1977.
It is recorded in (S1) that the Ipswich Museum holds a small assemblage of Mesolithic flints that were found in Hockwold Fen by Colonel T. C. Kelly (USAAF). The grid reference given (TL 685 879) places these finds in this location and is listed as being an accurate reference. These flints are listed as comprising
50 blades/flakes, 1 scraper, 1 graver [burin] and 1 miscellaneous implement. This assemblage is also listed in R. Jacobi's records, in which they are recorded as being from "Hockwold Fen (Site I)".
There appears to be no other record of Kelly working at this location. Although these flints are recorded by (S3) and (S4) in both cases this information was taken solely from (S1). Kelly is known to have recovered Mesolithic blades and other worked flints from a site at Sluice Drove (NHER 5394), but this was some distance to the east.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 November 2013.
