Summary

A medieval chapel, dedicated to St Botolph, is recorded in Bale by Blomefield. The chapel was in existence during the 15th century, and was standing until the late 18th century. Its exact location is unknown, although it has been suggested that the Angel and Oak pub (NHER 28272) now stands on the site.

'In this town was also a chapel dedicated to St Botolph, in 1421. Richard Brown gave by will in 1510 13s 4d to the repair of it'.

(S2) says this stood until 1776 'northeast of church'. (S3) shows no trace of it.
