Full Description
1947.
Low mound, tree covered in marshes between Boathouse Creek and Coalyard Creek.
Roman pottery (? 1st century AD) and kiln bars (cigar shaped) found before 1936.
Carinated bowls ?salt boiling site.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
August 2001. Norfolk NMP.
This is actually only the western side of a relatively large, sub-rounded mound with an east to west length of 150m and a width of 90m (S1 and S2). The site appears as several large amorphous light-coloured or parched areas. The eastern side is recorded as NHER 1592. The size of the site would suggest a relatively long period of occupation and salt production, albeit on a possible seasonal or piecemeal basis.
M. Brennand (NMP), 10 August 2001.
