Summary

In 1972 a collection of Neolithic flint flakes, scrapers and part of a polished flint axe were found in the field here. Aerial photographs taken in 1976 showed the cropmarks of a sub-rectangular enclosure. It seems likely that this enclosure dated to the medieval period as a subsequent photograph showed a series of parallel ridges/low banks that were consistent with medieval ridge and furrow agriculture.

No concentrations.
Southern part of field (Context 1) has a series of parallel ridges/low banks running east-to-west with perhaps a terminal bank running north- to-south on west side. The most northerly and southerly banks appear to be the most obvious in places but there are a series of others in between. Approximately parallel to fence on south but this may not be
significant as they broadly conform to slope of ground. NAU air photograph shows old field boundary and some marks. Ridge and furrow?
At 6862 0942 (Context 2) small scatter of prehistoric flints 10m x 10m.
Identifications by R. Silvester (NAU) December 1982.
