Full Description
1980. Field Observation.
Even Nos 16 to 20 Cock Street visited by E. Rose (NLA).
No 16 is timber framed, jettied, but with boards of recent date nailed over bressumer and some timbers. 18th or early 19th century central doorcase with Venetian windows each side. Upper windows occupy the original spaces. Dormers of same period as doorcase; pantile roof.
Nos 18-20 [now NHER 65173] have been faced with brick, the jetty being underbuilt. Double front doorway between Doric pillars under heavy architrave. Very fine multi-angled brick chimneystack, early 17th century, probably same date as timber framing.
This brick facing seems 18th-19th century, but the north gable wall is of chequered brickwork - early 18th? - with SB in clamp irons. The other brickwork is whitewashed.
E. Rose (NLA), 6 March 1980.
January 1995. Listed, Grade II*.
