Summary

Two leper hospitals were situated outside the town wall near the north gate. There was probably one hospital for each sex with a chapel located between them. The hospitals were probably founded in the 13th century or earlier but are not recorded in documentary sources until 1349. They were taken over by Great Yarmouth Corporation at the Dissolution and were known as Sickman's Houses.
