Full Description
Pre 1914.
Three copper alloy Egyptian coins found at unknown site probably in Burnham Market, early in 20th century, before 1914.
1. Ptolemy III. Head of Zeus Ammon, reverse; 2 eagles on thunderbolt. PTOLEMAIOS BASILEOS (in Greek lettering) 247 to 222 BC.
2. Ptolemy III. Head of Zeus Ammon; broad band in hair, border of dots. Reverse: eagle on thunderbolt.
3. Ptolemy V, 204 to 181 BC. Head of Zeus? reverse: eagle.
Compare with examples in (S1) and (S2).
Probably all are imports of Roman date, but they are not above suspicion of having reached England VERY recently.
R. R. Clarke (NCM)
(S3) gives 2 Ptolemaic, regards as scrap metal (This comment affixed by R. R. Clarke to card listing above and coins from Overy (NHER 1749, NHER 21881) and not clear if refers to all.)
Retyped 28 October 1985 by E. Rose (NAU)
See NHER 1749 and NHER 21881.
