Summary

Cropmarks of a ring ditch are visible on RAF 1946 aerial photographs and NLA aerial photographs from 1977. It seems likely that this is of Bronze Age date, though this is not certain. In 1960 a small Neolithic chipped flint axehead was recovered from this area.

Cropmarks of a ring ditch are visible on RAF 1946 aerial photographs (S3) and NLA aerial photographs from 1977 (S4). The site is centred on TF9370 4115 and has a diameter of about 45m. There appears to be a gap in the circuit towards the east, it is not clear whether this is an actual gap/entrance, or whether that section is just not showing due to other factors. There does however seem to be a cropmark of a chalk pit/solution hollow coinciding with that point, which could well mask any other features.
It seems likely that this site is of Bronze Age date, though this is not certain.
H. Clare (NMP), 11 October 2002.
