Full Description
Autumn 1983.
Mound cut by old railway line. Covered in slag, possible a saltern mound (?) or slag from railway engines ?
Abraded green glazed Grimston ware found, and abraded Thetford type rim sherd.
Information from [1].
Identifications by [1], though sherds seen by E. Rose (NAU).
E. Rose (NAU) 6 December 1983.
The western half of this earthwork mound appears to be recorded under NHER 27119.
These features form part of a dense concentration of saltern mounds located along the saltmarsh in North and South Wootton. Direct dating evidence is scarce but isolated finds of pottery suggest that the majority of the mounds are medieval in date.
A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 18 July 2019.
