Summary

A mound exists here that is cut by the old railway line. It is covered with slag and therefore may be a mound created by the railway engines. Alternatively it could be a saltern mound of uncertain date. Investigation of the mound in 1983 found several medieval pottery sherds and a single Late Saxon pottery sherd.

The western half of this earthwork mound appears to be recorded under NHER 27119.
These features form part of a dense concentration of saltern mounds located along the saltmarsh in North and South Wootton. Direct dating evidence is scarce but isolated finds of pottery suggest that the majority of the mounds are medieval in date.
