Full Description
22 November 1985. Fieldwalking in well weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1, general scatter medieval sherds. KLY AB.
Context 2 at 6150 1404. Sparse concentration of medieval pottery, shell animal bone and post medieval material very sparse. Adjacent to road, close to but not actually on large roddon about 31m west to east x 27m north to south at 2.1m OD. KLY 2
Context 3 at 6155 1413 cent. Traces of moat? - two sides show as dark stains on aerial photograph due to rubbish in upper fill; third side also visible as part of large field dyke. On ground parts of all sides visible, generally 0.5 to 1m deep at most. Over years farmer has attempted to level field. Evidence largely in favour of moat. Furthermore large quantities of rubbish within area and in east and south ditches. Mainly post medieval rubble but also medieval and late medieval pot, moderate only sample taken, moderate bone, moderate shell. KLY 3.
