Summary

A late 16th century house and barn with diapered brickwork and stepped gables. There is no evidence that the farm is associated with an abbey, although it is locally reputed to be linked to a leper hospital, possibly that at Setchey Hithe (NHER 14462).

Map

Abbey Farm (Ordnance Survey) now Seeche Abbey.
E-shaped brick house, English bond, diaper work, stepped gables. AD 1570. Fine contemporary barn. No evidence of any 'abbey' here; local legend also calls it a leper hospital, and refers to a 'moat' nearby (probably drains).
Information from (S1), 22 October 1978.
E. Rose (NAU) 18 August 1982.

The leper hospital was probably that at Setchey Hithe (NHER 14462). For the moat see NHER 21978. House now called Abbey Farm again.
E. Rose (NAU) 26 November 1985.

The moat referred to is in fact site NHER 21978.
See (S1).
